Frosty

It's currently bitterly cold in London, which has also had some hefty snowfalls (very unusual this early in winter -- though other parts of the country have had far more snow).

While significant parts of our transport infrastructure have predictably collapsed (Gatwick Airport closed for the last couple of days, roads blocked, and several railway lines suspended), aesthetically I always think the snow suits trains very well. This Siemens Desiro at London's Waterloo starts to pull out with an express to Weymouth.

Brrrrrr! I'd rather be on the train then on the platform, I think...

Dude! You have got to see "Unstoppable" with Denzel Washington. Great flick. Lots of technical data about how engines operate and how switching is done. I hope it makes it across the pond.

Unstoppable? I already have seen it -- see:

Completely agree with you, though: gripping fun.

Snow! What snow? I don't see any snow in that picture.
If you want a train in the snow, here is some footage I took last night on my way to the shops...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cACEklXINdQ
We've had about 8-9 inches here so far. Train is the only option now for many as most of the minor roads are undriveable.

North Wales to Euston and back today within ten minutes of time both ways, thank goodness - my sympathy goes out to those who've had such horrible experiences
